In the lead up to The Bisocope’s 5th Year Anniversary, we’ll be hosting special releases and screenings of the films that we feel have been important to us since we opened our doors in 2010. This March sees the return of the incredible documentary ORANIA. A documentary film by Tobias Lindner about one of the most peculiar towns in South Africa.
An artist paints a caricature of South African president Jacob Zuma that provokes a lawsuit, death threats and a massive street protest. Around this incident, Shield and Spear explores a constellation of stories about identity, art, race, and freedom of expression in South Africa, twenty years into democracy.
