Flamedrop Productions and The Bioscope are proud to bring the country’s best Music Film Festival to Johannesburg this August.
31 July – 2 August.
Fri 31 Jul. 7:30pm. Soaked In Bleach BUY TICKETS
Soaked In Bleach reveals the events behind Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s death as seen through the eyes of Tom Grant, the private investigator that was hired by Courtney Love in 1994 to track down her missing husband only days before his deceased body was found at their Seattle home.
Cobain’s death shocked the world and music industry, and was ruled a suicide by the police (a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound), but doubts have circulated for twenty years as to the legitimacy of this ruling, especially due to the work of Mr. Grant, a former L.A. County Sheriff’s detective, who did his own investigation and determined there was significant empirical and circumstantial evidence to conclude that foul play could very well have occurred.
The film develops as a narrative mystery with cinematic re-creations, interviews with key experts and witnesses and the examination of official artifacts from the 1994 case.
SATURDAY 1 AUGUST
Sat 1 Aug. 5pm. We are Twisted Fucking Sister BUY TICKETS
A decade before their mid-80s “Stay Hungry” album (with hits like “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock”) took the world by storm, legendary glam / shock rock / metal band Twisted Sister were rule breakers that no record company wanted to touch. Some considered Twisted Sister a joke, others called them the greatest bar band in the world.
That Twisted Sister would break out into multi-platinum stardom is well known, but this is no fable of fame and success, no litany of celebrity tributes and fanboy adulation. Rather a smart, savvy and wickedly funny story of a 10 year odyssey to overnight success.

STAND THE CHANCE TO WIN A SET OF DOUBLE TICKETS TO THIS YEAR’S OPPIKOPPI FESTIVAL, WHERE YOU CAN WATCH GOGOL BORDELLO LIVE! SIMPLY BOOK YOUR TICKETS ONLINE TO ENTER INTO THE DRAW!
Fusing the instrumental approach of Eastern European gypsy music with the energy and attitude of punk rock, Gogol Bordello is one of the most unusual success stories of pop music in the new millennium, and Eugene Hutz hardly has the background of a typical rock frontman. Born near Kiev in 1972, Hutz and his family fled the Ukraine after the disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 1986, and they made their way through Eastern Europe as refugees before coming to America in 1990.
Gogol Bordello’s frantic live shows earned the band a loyal following both at home and on the road, and their third album, 2005′s Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike became a major independent success. Filmmaker Margarita Jimeno followed the band on the road for several months, and the result was Gogol Bordello Non-Stop, a documentary which looks at the group’s colorful history and rigorous schedule as well as offering a look at the high-energy live show that’s made them famous.
