Inspired by the release of local surf feature Otelo Burning, The Bioscope has curated a special series of surf films that will screen througout the month of May.
From local film Taking Back The Waves (Nic Hofmeyr), to some rare classics, Surf Cinema is one of best curations to date. We have even gone so far as to include a surfing film from Johannesburg with Surfing Soweto, the previous film by Otelo Burning director Sara Blecher which delves deep into the dangerous life of train surfing.

The Bioscope Independent Cinema in partnership with the Goethe Institut Johannesburg will be presenting a selection of renowned German documentarian Thomas Heise’s films in March 2012. Mr Heise is one of Germany’s foremost filmmakers and his award-winning and controversial work has documented both a divided and reunified Germany over the past 30 years. The selection will be one of the first times that his work is presented in South Africa.
