After years of successful outdoor cinema screenings across the city, The Bioscope Outdoor Cinema has found a new home on the rooftop of Main Street Life, the same building that houses The Bioscope here in Maboneng. With this new base camp, we are excited to host more regular outdoor cinema screenings, something we know you guys have always wanted! In case you have just arrived here, and find yourself little confused, The Bioscope itself is a 62 seater INDOOR cinema located in the Maboneng Precinct. We screen films to the public every night of the week. As The Bioscope, we are proudly able host occasional outdoor cinema events, these are specifically listed as being outdoor events, and are listed on this page. So all screenings listed here will take place at this venue, unless otherwise stated.
These screenings will usually take place on a Tuesday evening, and will be announced across all Bioscope social media with dates listed on the Bioscope website right here. On arrival, meet us at The Bioscope itself, and you will be ushered up to the rooftop venue by Bioscope staff. The screenings will start promptly at 8pm, with access to the venue from 6pm. Your R120 ticket will include bottomless popcorn, and there will be a cash bar set up on the roof, as well as the chance to bring other Bioscope concession up from downstairs.
IMPORTANT TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
For the Main Street Life Outdoor Cinema Venue we ask that you bring along a comfy pillow you can sit on, as well as a warm blanket in case of a chill. Any seating we can provide is not allocated, so arrive nice and early to pick your favourite spot!
Outdoor Cinema is an outdoor event, so while we would love to screen all of our films come rain or shine; in the case of extreme weather, such as a proper downpour, we may have to cancel a screening. Here is the game plan;
STEP 1, DO WE TO POSTPONE A SCREENING
On the day of the screening, we have from the start of the day up until 4pm to decide if we need to postpone the screening due to rain. If you dont hear from us via email, consider it going ahead.
STEP 2, IF RAIN COMES OUT OF NOWHERE
There is however the case of a torrential shower (or another act of God) once the show has commenced or moments before we get underway… We will try to wait it out with you if possible. We will give it as long as 40 mins. If it still hasn’t cleared up, the screening will be moved to inside The Bioscope. In these moment we are unable to postpone that particular screening or offer any cash refunds for tickets.
STEP 3, REFUNDS?
Unfortunately we cannot offer refunds on ticket purchases. You can, however, reallocate your tickets to someone else if you can no longer attend a screening you have bought tickets for. This also pertains to a screening that has been moved on account of weather.
